The Malayalam movie starring superstar Mohanlal Lucifer has officially entered the Rs 100 crore club within eight days of its theatrical release. Antony Perumbavoor’s production company Aashirwad Cinemas, which bankrolled the film announced it’s incredible achievement through social media.

Overwhelmed with the response, Mohanlal also shared the big news via his Facebook page and thanked the audience for their unwavering support. “You are changing the face of Malayalam Film Industry and taking it into uncharted territories,” he added. The actor also thanked the cast and crew of Lucifer.

Meanwhile, Lucifer has been performing well in the international markets as well. Popular industry trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

According to him, as of April 7, 2019, Lucifer has earned more than $500,000 [₹3.48 crore] from the US, $ 117,385 [₹81.75 lakhs] from Canada, £252,381 [₹2.30 crore] from the UK, A$134,331 [₹66.75 lakhs] from Australia and NZ$77,193 [₹36.28 lakhs] from New Zealand.

It has to be noted that Lucifer is said to be the third Malayalam movie to achieve this rare feat after Mohanlal’s 2016 movie Pulimurugan and Nivin Pauly’s 2018 film Kayamkulam Kochunni. Incidentally, Mohanlal has appeared in an important cameo role in Kayamkulam Kochunni as well.

Meanwhile, Lucifer, which is the debut directorial venture of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, has been receiving a mixed response from the viewers. While the fans of the superstar have been showering positive words about the movie, most of the critics have tagged it as a pure commercial mass masala entertainer made to impress the fans.
Scripted by Murali Gopy, the movie has an ensemble cast, including Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Nyla Usha, Bala, Sachin Khedekar and Saniya Iyyappan among others. Prithviraj also makes a cameo appearance in the movie.
