Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Aravindante Athidhikal is a simple, yet a feel good family entertainer.
The story of M Mohanan’s directorial venture is set in the backdrop of the popular Moobambika temple. It was where Aravindan (Vineeth Sreenivasan) was abandoned by his mother on a Navarathri day (Hindu festival) when he was just five year old. He was then raised by Madhavan (played by Sreenivasan), a lodge owner in the historical place. The incidents that happen after Urvashi and Nikhila’s characters reach their lodge form the crux of Aravindante Athidhikal.
Performances in Aravindante Athidhikal
Though the character Aravindan doesn’t look challenging, Vineeth had made a realistic performance impressing the audience. His smiling and joyful face despite all the pain in mind will make us feel happy too. Unlike similar orphan characters we have seen before, Aravindan doesn’t go in search of his mother. Instead the longing son believes that one day he can walk inside the Mookambika temple holding her hands. And here, it is his love interest and friend who help him in making his dream come true.
After Love 24*7, Nikhila Vimal portrays the notable character Varada, a dancer, who arrives in Mookambika for her Arangettam (the first on-stage performance of a trained dancer). Nikhila and Vineeth’s chemistry as well as their expressions look convincing throughout the movie. She is of course an apt casting for the role.

Urvashi has done many remarkable characters in the past, however, her performances never impressed me in all her recent movies. But in Aravindante Athidhikal, interestingly, almost all the comedy dialogues delivered effortlessly by the versatile actress have worked well. It reminded me of some the characters that she has done during her prime days.
Sreenivasan, KPAC Lalitha, Premkumar, Baiju, Bijukuttan, Sreejaya Nair and Sneha Sreekumar have also done justice to their characters. Despite being a cameo role, Aravindan’s mom character portrayed by a veteran actress (surprise…surprise) is graceful enough to touch our hearts. As always, the combination between Aju Varghese and Vineeth have worked well in this movie, yet again.
What stands out?
Shaan Rahman’s music plays a major role in making people entertained while watching Aravindante Athidhikal. The viewers will feel good to hear Vineeth rendering the songs Kanne Thai Malare and Rasathi for sure.
Though the basic story-line is not new for the audience in Malayalam, the makers have tried to make it look different with its fresh humour. Compared to Mohanan’s previous outings 916 and My God, the Vineeth-starrer raises the filmmaker’s career graph for its neat film-making style. Rajesh Raghavan’s writing also needs a special mention for its simplicity. I really liked the dialogue said by the mother character of Vijayaraghavan to Urvashi.
There were many aerial shots throughout the movie, however, all of them lacked clarity, especially the scene where Vineeth and Nikhila visited Kodachadri.
Meanwhile, we get to see how Aravindan’s childhood drawings help Varada and friends in finding his own parents. I still wonder how smart a 5-year old will be to remember all those pivotal information, including the post codes of the localities he spent during the childhood days.
Aravindante Athidhikal is definitely a feel good family entertainer despite having a predictable plot. It has its share of fun, comedy, sentiments and romance to keep us engaged throughout. One thing for sure, you will leave the theatre with a happy face after watching this emotionally driven movie.
