Pizza, a savoury dish of Italian origin, is something that kids and youngsters love to eat. And when it’s topped with tomatoes, cheese, olives, meat and veggies, no one can resist from taking a bite!
However, many parents are scared to feed their kids with it, especially when it’s bought from outside! But, if it’s very easy to prepare at home itself, why do you have to worry much, right?
PS: If you want to prepare a veg pizza, use veg ingredients as the toppings. Else, fill it with whatever you wish to.
Check out this simple pizza recipe:
- Active yeast – 1 tablespoon
- Sugar – 1 tablespoon
- Warm water – 1 cup
- Flour – 2 cups
- Oregano, chilly flakes
- Olive oil (I have used coconut oil and vegetable oil as well, and they weren’t bad)
- Toppings – red chilly sauce, cheese, tomato slices, onion (square shaped slices), capsicum, olives, chicken/beef/prawns/pork/sausage
Let’s start the preparation:
Firstly, lets allow the active yeast to react with sugar and warm water. Let it rest for some time, until you see foams due to fermentation.
Now, take a big bowl with the flour. Add yeast+sugar-water and olive oil to it. Add a little bit of oregano and chilly flakes to this mix, if needed.
Mix all the ingredients and knead well with hand for at least 15 minutes.
Kneading is an important process in the making of this dough as it adds strength to the final product. If it is not kneaded enough, the dough will not be able to hold the tiny pockets of gas created by the leavening agent.
How to knead?
Put the dough on a flat surface. Press and stretch it with the heel of your hand. Fold and rotate it continuously.
Keep the dough aside in room temperature for an hour. Do not forget to cover it with a damp cloth.
After an hour, you will see that the dough has raised double in size.
Now, let’s knead the dough again for 10 minutes and keep aside for another 30 minutes.
Again, knead the dough for a couple of minutes. Brush oil on a pizza pan and spread the dough evenly on it. (I have also tried using a glass pan).
Make gaps in between the dough using a fork.
Now, spread red chilly sauce, add all the toppings and brush oil on sides.
Pre-heat the oven (convection) at 180 degrees and bake the pizza for 20 minutes.
Don’t have a convection oven? No need to worry.
Take a big kadai. Add salt or sand (I mean, a lot). Place a ring on the top. Cover the kadai with a big plate and heat it for 15 minutes (pre-heating, you know!). Open the big plate on top and place the pizza pan above the ring and cover it again. Cook for 15 minutes.
